Are you paying too much for your business automobile, property and general liability insurance? Not sure? Regardless of whether our business clients come to us for employee benefits, human resources, pension plan design and administration or financial services, we recommend that they review their auto, property and general liability insurance. Too many times we’ve seen businesses put these coverages on auto pilot leaving them poorly protected from potential law suits, often paying far too much for that poor coverage.

Through our affiliate, Bailey, Haskell & LaLonde (BHL) insurance, BCG clients can learn if their business might be at risk. More often than not, when they choose to have a no-cost, no-obligation review done of their auto, property and general liability insurance, they are very pleased to find that they can save money on far better coverage that will protect their business and the assets they’ve worked so hard to attain.

    Business Automobile Insurance
Automobile insurance coverage provides liability, personal injury protection (no-fault in NYS), uninsured motorist, comprehensive and collision coverage. This type of insurance policy should be purchased by business owners if a vehicle is owned and registered by the business.

BHL has vast experience in providing business automobile insurance programs to every size company from sole proprietor to corporate fleets.

Business auto insurance coverage insures vehicles that are owned, leased, hired or borrowed by businesses. BHL provides insurance to:
    • Associations
    • Corporations
    • Partnerships
    • Sole Proprietorships
Business auto insurance may be used to insure all private passenger autos, trucks, trailers, semi-trailers and commercial vehicles that are to be used on public roads.

BHL will give you more details about specific business auto insurance coverages and deductibles and can work together with you to design a custom-tailored business auto insurance program that’s just right for your needs. Business Automobile Insurance Quotes and Options
With so many places to choose from for your business automobile insurance it can be confusing and time consuming to evaluate your options. With BHL you don’t have to! They do all the work of shopping the best price and reviewing extensive coverage options including:
    • Bodily injury to others
    • Personal injury protection
    • Bodily injury caused by an uninsured vehicle
    • Damage to someone else’s property
    • Optional medical payments
    • Optional collision
    • Optional comprehensive coverage
    • Optional roadside assistance and rental reimbursement
    • Optional towing and labor
    Consider Business Umbrella Liability Insurance?
Business umbrella liability insurance is designed to provide an additional layer of security and protection against the cost of lawsuits, legal fees and settlements in the event of an accident. Business umbrella liability insurance is supplementary coverage to your basic property, auto and workers’ compensation liability coverage.

Additionally, business umbrella liability insurance can cover bodily injury and personal property claims that are not covered by your other liability policies.

Why Buy Business Umbrella Liability Insurance?
Imagine this devastating scenario: Your employee is involved in a serious accident and your company is named in a major liability law suit. You are sued for $5 million and the case is ultimately settled for $2 million. Your general liability insurance has a maximum payout of $1 million per occurrence. Here is what would happen:
    • Your insurance company would pay the maximum amount of $1 million
    • Your business would be responsible to pay the remaining $1 million
If you had a business umbrella liability insurance policy in force for $5 million, your general liability insurance would have paid $1 million, your business umbrella liability insurance would have paid $1 million and you would still have $3 million in liability coverage available.

Protect your business and yourself with the proper level of business automobile liability insurance and an affordable business umbrella liability insurance policy. Every Business Needs Property Insurance
Commercial property insurance is essential to businesses large and small. Commercial property insurance protects your business from the risk of property loss due to:
    • Fire
    • Explosion
    • Riots or strikes
    • Lightening, hail or wind
    • Vandalism
    • Accidental damage from vehicles
Imagine if your company was destroyed by fire and you lost everything: vehicles, records, furniture, fixtures, computers and files, inventories and the building! How could you stay in business? How would you pay to replace all that you have worked so hard to build? Commercial property insurance gives you the peace of mind that you will be able to continue your business operations and be able to replace everything you’ve lost. That’s why commercial property insurance is usually the first thing you invest in when you start your business and the most important investment a business of any size can make in the business.

BHL makes it easy with plain language descriptions of every coverage type. Contact BHL today for a no obligation quote on your commercial insurance. When calling, please have your current policies available. Start saving right away! Don’t Own Your Own Building?
Many companies don’t own the building in which they operate. However, many landlords required adequate insurance coverage should you be responsible for damages to the facility, and companies that lease equipment to you may also require replacement insurance on their equipment.

    You can choose two options:
    • Full replacement insurance where you will recover the full cost to replace what you have lost
    • Actual cash value where you will recover an amount that your possessions are worth less depreciation.
BHL can help you go over your unique requirements to ensure that you have adequate commercial content insurance to protect you and give you peace of mind. As an independent insurance agency, BHL’s experts can provide you with side-by side comparisons from many insurance companies and recommend what’s best for you. General liability insurance (GL), also called commercial general liability insurance (CGL) is a preferred method for contractual risk transfer. This means that an insurance contract can be easily used to protect the assets of a business or individual when it is sued for something it did (or did not do) to cause an injury or property damage.

General liability insurance is regularly utilized to protect owners/operators for construction contracts, leases, purchase orders, rental agreements, production contracts, and many other contractual agreements.

Do You Really Need General Liability Insurance?
We live in a very litigious society. In today’s world even a small accident or error can quickly turn into a very large lawsuit. To prevent catastrophic financial burden, businesses and executives need the protection of:
    • General liability insurance
    • Property and casualty insurance
    • Workers’ compensation insurance
    • Umbrella liability insurance
    • Inland Marine insurance
Typically, basic liability insurance is bundled with property and casualty insurance as part of a business-owner’s policy (BOP). However, when bundled, the liability insurance is often low and may not provide adequate protection depending on what type of business you operate and where your business is located.

For example, if you own a construction company or hire sub-contractors in New York State, you would need far more liability insurance than if you were operating a small retail store in less litigious state. This is because the NYS Labor Law Section 240 (the “Scaffold Law”) and Section 241 (excavation and demolition work) state that the owner and general contractor are absolutely responsible for injuries to a sub-contractor and proof of negligence is not required! The worker’s failure to exercise care or comparative fault is not a defense. But, this risk can be transferred to the contractor or sub-contractor with an appropriate indemnification and if they have proper insurance.

You can easily purchase additional general liability insurance to provide you with the proper level of protection. We can help you to be certain that you do have the correct liability insurance coverage and, as an independent insurance agency, we are free to use the insurance carrier that will offer you the best value.
